Palliser Estate Martinborough Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 11-Aug-2013
Deepish purple-hued ruby-red colour. The nose is very evenly expressed with soft and fragrant, ripe black berried fruits, lifted with floral perfumes, the aromatics fresh and harmonious. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, sweet and subtly juicy, ripe dark red berry fruits are enlivened by fresh acidity. The richness is balanced by fine-grained, firm tannin extraction that lends a proper backbone and line. Nuances of sour cherries, oak and plums emerge in the glass and carry through to a red floral finish. This is a harmoniously balanced wine with fruit sweetness. 5-7+ years. 78% clones 667 and 777 from vines 10-12 y.o. and 22% clone 10/2 from 23 y.o. vines, fermented to 14.1% alc. with 5% whole bunch, the wine aged 11 months in 30% new French oak. 18.5+/20 Aug 2013 RRP $54.00 Dark, deep ruby-red colour with a strong heart and light purple hues on rim. The nose is a little subdued initially but builss in presence and volume to show black cherry and dark raspberry aromas with a dark herb underlay. Oaking is sensitive and in balance. Medium-full bodied, flavours of dark red berry fruits are complexed by earth and dark herb detail and form a firm and deep core, surrounded by firm and serious tannins. The fruit richness and the extract are in good balance, with bright acidity bringing tension and liveliness to the mouthfeel. The flavours blossom on mid-palate and are carried by the acidity and tannins to a very long, lingering, juicy finish. This is a rich and well-structured and textured Pinot Noir that is beginning to blossom. Match with roasted red meats over the next 6-8 years. 78% clones 667 and 777 from vines 10-12 y.o. and 22% clone 10/2 from 23 y.o. vines, fermented to 14.1% alc. with 5% whole bunch, the wine aged 11 months in 30% new French oak. 18.5-/20 Feb 2013 RRP $54.00
