Palliser Estate Martinborough Pinot Gris 2014

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 17-Aug-2015
Brilliant, light straw-yellow colour with green hues, very pale on rim. This has an elegantly presented nose with tightly bound and refined, refreshingly steely aromas of white and yellow stonefruits that unveil nuances of exotic florals and minerally lees elements. The intensity of the lees detail grows with aeration. Off-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, tightly concentrated flavours of white and yellow stonefruits are layered with honeysuckle, floral and mineral notes. The fruit is gently sweet and has a subtle lusciousness, the palate growing in richness and unctuousness, with the roundness enhanced by soft acidity. Flowing smoothly, the wine follows a positive line that leads to a rich, lingering finish with exotic floral nuances. This is a gently concentrated and rich, off-dry Pinot Gris with stonefruit, honeysuckle and minerally flavours. Serve with Asian poultry and pork dishes over the next 4+ years. 75% Berry Smith clone from the ‘Om Santi’ vineyard and 25% clone 2-15 from the ‘East Base’ block, fermented in stainless-steel to 13.6% alc. and 5.6 g/L RS, the wine aged 10 months on lees. 18.0/20 Aug 2015 RRP $28.50
