Palliser Estate Martinborough Chardonnay 2008

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 13-Feb-2011
One of Martinborough's finest Chardonnays, Palliser has really hit its straps with the variety in the last five years. Made from Mendoza and clone 95, the fruit was whole bunch pressed for finesse, then 100% barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine then aged 9 months on lees in French oak barrels. Bright straw yellow with some youthful green hues to the colour, this has a tight nose with mealy, citrus and nutty aromas, spiced by oak lift. With air-time, nuances of extra interest emerge in the aroma. The palate is elegantly proportioned, fine-textured and, showing lovely, ripe citrus and stonefruit flavours along with mealy, nutty, smoky elements. Complexing sulphide nuances add another dimension and the oak contributes richness and creaminess with breathing. This has a very long finish. It is a classically styled wine of superior quality. It will drink beautifully over the next 4-5 years. 19.0-/20 Dec 2010 RRP $29.00
