Palacio de Oriente Rioja Reserva 2012

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 19-Mar-2018
Dark, deep, black-hued red colour with a little garnet-brick on the edge. The nose is softly packed with good volume of savoury dark-red berry fruit harmoniously entwined with alayering of sweet and nutty oak. This has a gentle density and depth. Medium-full bodied, the palate has juicy and lively flavours of savoury red berry fruit with sweet and sour detail, and integrated nutty oak. The flavours are up-front and relatively uncomplicated, and form a rich, rounded core with good underlying acidity, and light, fine-grained tannin extraction. The palate has good drive and the wine carries with some vitality to a light, nuanced, lingering finish. This is a harmonious, sweet-fruited Rioja Reserve with savoury red fruits, sweet and sour elements and nutty oak with gentle vitality and light grip. Serve with pasta and slow-roasted red meat dishes over the next 4 years. Tempranillo fruit fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 24 months in American oak. 17.0/20 Mar 2018 RRP $19.95
