Paddy Borthwick Paper Road Pinot Noir 2021, Wairarapa

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 30-Mar-2022
Deep, purple-hued ruby-red, lighter on the rim. This has a softly full, voluminous bouquet packed with dense black plums and cherries, sweet floral enriched by savoury earth and herb. Medium-full bodied, a concentrated palate carries black plums, cherries, along with a hint of bay leaf, liquorice; sweet floral and black pepper unveiled on the finish. The fruit has depth and is savoury toned, contributing to breadth on the palate. Supple, fine-grained tannin extraction with integrated acidity results in a well-balanced palate. This is a savoury Pinot Noir with dense, sweet black fruit, earth and spice on a fine-textured mouthfeel. Match with lamb grill and black pudding over the next 4-5 years. Temperature-controlled fermentation to 13.5% alc, extended post-ferment maceration on skins, 85% aged in French oak barrels, 15% of which are new. 17.5+/20 pts (89 pts) Mar 2022 RRP $21.50
