Ostler’s Audrey’s Pinot Gris 2019, Waitaki Valley

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 31-Mar-2021
Bight, pale straw-yellow with some depth, faintly lighter edged. The nose is opulent and generous, aromas of crunchy Nashi pear, apple blossom entwined with ripe stonefruit, five-spice and mead with a toasty undertone. Medium-full bodied, dry to taste, very elegantly presented, nuances of Nashi pear's crunchiness leading the palate, intermix stonefruit, guava, unfolding apple blossom, citrus zest, lots of five-spice and a hint of honey. The wine is textural, displaying fine chalky mineral and a smooth, oily mouthfeel. The purity of fruit is the main feature, concentrated in flavour yet clean and precise with refreshing acid. This is a classy Pinot Gris with elegant structure, intensity and a refreshing, textural palate. Match with whitebait and bacon-wrapped scallops over the next 5+ years. Fruit is from Clos Ostler vineyard, partially barrel-fermented and aged on lees. 13.5% alc, 2.1 g/l RS. 19+/20 pts (96 pts) March 2021 RRP $35
