Ostler ‘Lakeside Vines’ Waitaki Valley Riesling 2013

Riesling from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 24-Aug-2017
Bright, very pale straw colour, very pale edged. This is very elegant and tightly bound, quite slender, but with intensity, now showing secondary toast and mineral notes to the citrus fruit and white florals. Dryish to taste, this is crisp and racy on palate, the acidity a feature. The lime fruit has purity, and reveals apple notes, then toast and minerals. This is tight and steely, but with finesse. The soft intensity builds to good levels of concentration. 12.5% alc., 10 g/L RS. 18.5/20 Aug 2017 RRP $N/A Brilliant pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues. The nose is tightly bound and refined in expression with intense and penetrating aromas of lime fruit entwined with complex toasty elements and mouthwatering minerals. While floral and honied detail add to the aromatic interest. Dryish to taste and elegantly proportioned, the flavours are restrained, showing white florals, lime and secondary toast notes. The palate is concentrated and refined, balancing very fine textures with fresh, thirst-quenching acid tension. The wine flows with energy, carrying through to a soft, long lingering dry finish. This is an elegant, refined dry Riesling with intense lime and toasty aromas and a stylishly restrained, mouthwatering palate. Serve as an aperitif and with seafood over the next 4-5 years. Clones GM110 and GM 198-19 from the ‘Lakeside’ vineyard cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.5% alc. and 7.0 g/L RS, TA 7.8 g/L. 18.0+/20 Aug 2015 RRP $29.90
