Ostler ‘Lakeside Vines’ Waitaki Valley Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 18-Apr-2012
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light hues of gold, pale on rim. Vibrant, fresh yellow stonefruit aromas with apricots, spiced pears and honey intermingle with layers of flint and minerals, the concentrated bouquet wonderfully lifted with exotic and complex elements. Off-dry, this is a rich and concentrated wine that unfolds interwoven flavours of spicy yellow stonefruits, honey, flint and earth. The palate combines lusciousness with finesse, and carries an excellent, driven line with tension and energy that carries through to a very sustained, lingering racy, spicy finish. This is a powerfully concentrated and complex Pinot Gris that retains a stylishness. Match with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean inspired fare over the next 5-6 years. Clone 457 fruit from the ‘Lakeside' vineyard, hand-picked, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented in tank to 14.0% alc. and 14.0 g/L rs, the wine spending time on lees. 19.0/20 Apr 2012 RRP $29.90
