Ostler ‘Audrey’s’ Waitaki Valley Pinot Gris 2010

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 30-Jun-2011
100% Pinot Gris from ‘Audrey's Block', a portion fermented in old large-format oak with wild yeasts to 14.5% alc., the wine carrying 6.5 g/L rs. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, this has a fat, rich and intriguing bouquet of ripe yellow stonefruits with tropical fruit elements allied to savoury spices, earth and minerals which unfold layers of interest and nuance in the glass. Full-bodied and dry on palate, this is a warm and satisfying wine, full of ripe, savoury stonefruit flavours along with notes of exotic fruits, honey, earth and wood spices. There is a concentration and core that forms an impressive backbone, but the palate has excellent poise from lively acidity and the palate carries wonderful tension through its line and length. Drink this complex, Alsace Pinot Gris look-alike with firm flesh seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-6+ years. 19.0-/20 Jun 2011 RRP $35.00
