OSE ‘Vixen’ Marlborough Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 19-May-2016
Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with light purple hues, youthful in appearance. This has an elegant, but deeply concentrated bouquet of black-berried fruits harmoniously melded with dark herbs, minerals and oak. The oak has a little resinous edge, but the nose unfolds fresh black pepper, liquorice and dark raspberry elements. Medium-full bodied, the fruit is tightly concentrated with flavours of ripe, black-berried fruits and dark raspberry notes, along with black spices and subtle nuances of pepper and savoury oak. This has a fine-grained core with plenty of weight and extract, and integrated acidity lending energy and tension to the mouthfeel. The structure carries the wine to a long, elegant finish of black fruits, minerals and dusty oak. This is a tightly concentrated Syrah with blackberry and raspberry fruit with fine tannin grip and acid energy. Match with lamb, beef, venison and semi-hard cheeses over the next 6-8 years. Named after the ‘Sea Vixen’ plane flown by Geoff Jensen. A single vineyard Syrah from the Omaka Valley, the fruit hand-picked and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 50% new French oak. 18.0/20 May 2016 RRP $40.00
