One Off ‘Rhymes with Orange’ Hawke’s Bay Pinot Gris 2015

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Feb-2016
Bright, pale orange colour with some depth and a suggestion of blush, lighter on the rim. The nose is elegantly concentrated with good depth and a tight core of savoury citrus fruits with an amalgam of tropical fruits and musk, unfolding piquant herbal and subtle floral detail. Dry to taste and light-medium bodied, the palate features a tightly concentrated heart with deep flavours of savoury stonefruit and oranges, with nuances of tropical fruits and musk, melded with nutty and herbal detail and hints of honeysuckle. A fine-textured line carries the flavours and the mouthfeel is fresh from lacy acidity. The phenolics carry the wine to a light, dry-textured finish of citrus fruits and nuances of bitter stonefruit kernels. This is a tightly concentrated, fine-textured, fresh and dry skin-contact Pinot Gris. Serve with Mediterranean fare over the next 3 years. Pinot Gris from the company’s Maraekakaho vineyard, from vines planted in 2006, hand-picked and fermented on skins over 3-4 weeks to 12.0% alc. and dryness, the wine rested on skins a further 9 months and bottled after fining with organic egg white and organic milk. 16.5+/20 Mar 2016 RRP $24.99
