One Off Hawke’s Bay Malbec 2014

Malbec from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 22-Sep-2015
Very dark, purple-hued black-red colour, near impenetrable and youthful in appearance. The nose is full and well-proportioned with up-front, ripe aromas of spicy blackberry and black plum fruit aromas, along with black earth and violet floral elements, and a suggestion of sweet, nutty oak. Medium-full bodied, bright, succulently sweet and uncomplicated flavours of blackberries and spicy black plums fill the palate, revealing liquorice, black earth and floral detail. The fruit is supported by accessible, open, grainy tannin extraction and grip which allows the fruit juiciness and sweetness to feature. The palate has good mouthfeel and presence and carries to a lingering finish of sweet and spicy black plum fruit. This is an up-front, accessibly ripe, and sweet-fruited Malbec with spicy black plum flavours and a grainy-textured mouthfeel. Serve with barbecued and grilled red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. Bordeaux clone Malbec from gravels and Bridge Pa soils, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine matured 14 months in tank and French barriques, about 20% new. 17.5/20 Sep 2015 RRP $29.99
