One Off Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Mar-2015
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues, lighter on edge. The nose is full with aromas of youthfully fresh yellow stonefruits, citrus fruits and nutty, toasty oak, along with smoky elements. The fruit has excellent clarity and focus. Medium-full bodied, up-front flavours of ripe citrus and yellow stonefruits are the feature on palate. The fruit is bold, but stylish and presented with clarity and freshness. The fruit is intermixed with positive nutty and toasty oak, with subtle creamy, lemon-curd MLF elements. This has concentration, weight and presence, and the fruit is underlined by fine, phenolic textures. The mouthfeel features fresh, lively acidity and plenty of energy and power that carries the wine to a full, open and harmonious finish. This is a full, up-front Chardonnay with youthful fruit clarity and plenty of barrel and MLF inputs that will bloom over the next 3-4 years. Serve with seafood, poultry and pork. Clone 15 and 95 fruit from Maraekakaho and Bridge Pa showing high malic acid content, high solids barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts to 13.3% alc., the wine aged 10 months in oak, undergoing batonnage and MLF by natural and inoculated yeasts. 17.5+/20 Mar 2015 RRP $27.99
