One Off Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 09-Sep-2014
Clone 15 fruit from the company’s Maraekakaho vineyard, vines planted 2005, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented in new American oak hogsheads with full solids to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months on lees with 30% MLF. Bright, even, straw-yellow colour with light gold at heart, paler on rim. This has a full and solid nose with deep aromas of ripe citrus and tropical fruits with a powerful overlay of spicy, nutty oak and sweet vanilla lift. Medium-full bodied, the palate is softly broad, but well-concentrated with a base of ripe citrus fruit that unfolds waves of nutty, creamy, sweet vanilla-like oak. The mouthfeel is moderately rich, smooth and near unctuous with soft acidity contributing to the roundness on palate. Mellow in texture, there is good underlying power and drive, and the wine reveals some resinous oak nuances as it carries to a long, creamy, dry finish. This is a rich, smooth and creamy, citrussy Chardonnay with layers of oak. Serve with roasted poultry or pork over the next 4 years. 18.0/20 Aug 2014 RRP $29.99
