Omaka Springs Marlborough Merlot 2010

Merlot from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 21-Nov-2012
Bright, full, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with slight purple hues. The bouquet is soft and light with fresh redcurrant and red plum aromas with a gentle herb and spice underlay. Medium-bodied, bright and juicy redcurrant and dark plum flavours are enlivened by racy acidity. The fruit is supported by supple, modestly extracted tannins forming a subtly, sinewy palate line. Notes of liquorice and dark herbs infused with oak and spices unfold in mid-palate and are carried by the acidity to a moderately long finish. This is a fresh and brisk red fruited Merlot with herb and spicy oak interest and subtly sinewy mouthfeel to serve with pizza, pasta and pork over the next 3-4+ years. Merlot fruit from the company's ‘Kennedys Road' and Falveys Road' vineyards fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 20% new American oak barrels. 600 cases made. 16.5-/20 Nov 2012 RRP $20.95
