Omaka Springs ‘Falveys Vineyard’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 19-May-2016
Dark ruby-red colour with some garnet hues, paler on the rim. The bouquet is full and rich with a softly deep core of ripe, savoury, dark-red berry fruits along with notes of game and cedar. Dried herbs and lifted notes unfold, providing an ethereal perfume and adding savoury detail. Medium-bodied, the palate is sweet and succulent with luscious flavours of savoury red berry fruits, entwined with dried herbs, undergrowth, game and cedar. The fruit is underlined by fresh, lacy acidity and the palate core is guided by soft, integrating tannins. The fine-textures and fresh acidity carry the wine to a long, soft, dry finish. This is a sweet-fruited Pinot Noir with a good core, showing some savoury secondary development, but carried by fresh acidity and fine tannins. Match with mushroom pasta and risotto, and poultry and pork over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit, a blend of clones from the ‘Falveys’ vineyard, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 33% new French oak barriques. 18.0/20 May 2016 RRP $18.00
