Old School Gimblett Road Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 26-Nov-2013
70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec from Gimblett Road, fermented to 13.7% alc., the wine aged 2 years in French barriques. Full, dark, black-red colour with garnet hues on rim. This has a light, restrained nose of blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with cooler spectrum herb elements, well-integrated with soft earthy notes. Medium-full bodied, a tightly bound, softly dense core of blackcurrant and earthy plum flavours is underlined by fine-grained tannins. The fruit expression is shy, but harmoniously presented, with good sweetness to balance the extraction and structure. The palate follows a dry line with some alcohol drive, and leads to a gentle, textured finish. This is an elegant and harmonious, cool Merlot-based wine with shy fruit flavours. Serve with roast lamb and semi-hard cheeses over the next 4-5 years. 16.5+/20 Nov 2013 RRP $24.99
