Odyssey ‘Reserve Iliad’ Gisborne Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 15-Mar-2016
Bright straw-yellow colour with light gold and some depth, and green hues on the rim. This has a very tightly bound and well-proportioned nose with deep and intense aromas of ripe tropical fruits and yellow stonefruits entwined with nutty oak, creamy barrel-ferment elements and butterscotch MLF. Medium-bodied, the palate has deep and concentrated flavours of ripe tropical and yellow stonefruits melded with layers of nutty, creamy oak, and lemon-curd and butterscotch MLF. The mouthfeel is integrated with very fine textures providing a core with drive and linearity. The palate possesses good acid freshness and carries to a long, elegant finish of nuts, cream and toasty oak. This is a finely concentrated, harmonious Chardonnay with ripe tropical fruits, nutty and toasty oak and integrated buttery MLF flavours. Match with veal and pork over the next 4+ years. A barrel selection wine. Hand-picked Mendoza clone fruit from the ‘Kawitiri’ vineyard, Hexton, WBP and fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 30% new French oak with full MLF. 18.5-/20 Mar 2016 RRP $30.00
