Odyssey Marlborough Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 27-Mar-2016
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues on the rim. The nose is well-proportioned with a deep core of ripe dark red berryfruit, black cherries and dark red plums, along with subtle layers of dark herbs, liquorice and some nutty oak elements. Medium-bodied, the fruit is still well-bound and somewhat restrained, showing gentle richness and sweetness, with flavours of dark red berries and black cherries, along with notes of liquorice, herbs and spices. The palate has weight, presence and depth, the fruit supported by fine-grained tannin structure and integrated acidity. The fruit sweetness carries the wine to a long, rich fruity finish balanced by fine textures and good grip. This is a rich and well-packed Pinot Noir with some restraint to the fruit, but showing presence and structure. It will develop well over the next 5 years. Match with lamb, beef and venison. Multi-clone Pinot Noir fruit from the ‘Odyssey’ vineyard, Brancott Valley, fully destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged one year in 20% new French oak barriques. Certified BioGro organic. 17.5+/20 Mar 2016 RRP $26.50
