Odyssey Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 08-Jul-2014
Hand-picked fruit, clones 115, 777, 5, 10/5, Abel and 667, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged in French oak barriques. Deep ruby-red colour with light garnet hues on rim. This has an elegantly proportioned, tightly bound and firm bouquet of red berry fruits along with some herb, nutty and smoky notes, revealing mineral and floral perfumes in the glass. Medium-bodied, the fruit is light and restrained, with a fine core of dark red berries, unfolding with sweetness. Subtle herb and minerally nuances provide some interest and detail. The fruit is balanced by moderate tannin extraction forming a positive line, and enlivened by background acidity, carrying the wine to a light, dry finish with spicy fruit nuances. This is a tightly bound, elegant Pinot Noir with restrained flavours and a light, dry finish. Serve with poultry, pork and Asian fare over the next 5+ years. 17.5/20 Jul 2014 RRP $24.00
