Odyssey Marlborough Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 24-Dec-2013
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with black hues at heart and some garnet on edge. The nose is softly concentrated and a little restrained, but packed with aromas of ripe, dark red berry fruits, with warm spices, liquorice, earthy notes and underlying herb elements providing interest. Medium-full bodied, soft and densely concentrated flavours of lusciously sweet red berry fruits and savoury plums, earth and spices form a complex melange on the front palate. The flavours are encased by fine, grainy tannins forming a substantial structure, and the mouthfeel has a robustness and strength. The acidity is balanced and emerges as the textures become prevalent, carrying the wine to a long, grainy finish with savoury fruit notes. This is a full, rich and well packed, savoury Pinot Noir with plenty of structure. Serve with coq au vin and casseroles over the next5-6+ years. A variety of Dijon clone fruit from the ‘Odyssey’ vineyard, hand-picked, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc, the wine aged in French oak barriques. 17.5/20 Dec 2013 RRP $31.95
