Obsidian Waiheke Island Viognier 2011

Viognier from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 24-Sep-2012
Brilliant straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is full and broad with aromas of yellow stonefruits, apricot kernels and nuts. This is fulsome and savoury showing oxidative handling. Dry and full-bodied, flavours of exotic stonefruits, apricots and nuts with spicy oak are all interwoven on the palate. This is mouthfilling with some phenolic textures adding to the structure. Good acidity is in support and enlivens the flavours which blossom and carry through to a long and sustained, lifted finish with lifted floral and exotic fruit nuances. This is a complex and rich Viognier with savoury nuttiness and fulsome structure and textures. Serve with white meat dishes over the next 3-4+ years. Viognier fruit from the ‘Obsidian' vineyard, WBP and 50% barrel-fermented to 13.2% alc., and aged 10 months in seasoned oak, the wine aged on lees with batonnage. 17.5+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $43.50
