97% Syrah and 3% Viognier, fermented with approx. 10% whole clusters to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 10% new French oak barrels. Very dark, black-hued ruby-red with purple. This has a full and softly concentrated nose with intense aromas of ripe black fruits, black pepper and spices all harmoniously melded, unfolding subtle layers of savoury earth, fragrant dark florals and spicy, bacon-like oak. Medium-full bodied, densely packed flavours of sweet black berry fruits, plums and pepper form a solid core. Notes of herbs, florals, spices and oak add detail to a stylishly restrained expression. The fruit lusciousness is balanced by fine, supple tannins that build in structure and grip, and enlivened by background acidity. The mouthfeel is smooth and harmonious, and as the wine flows, the fruit flourishes alongside the extraction, to blossom with spices and exotic florals on the finish. This is a softly solid and dense, harmonious Syrah with ripe black fruits, good structure and vitality. Match with roast lamb, beef and venison over the next 5-6+ years. 18.5+/20 Aug 2014 RRP $35.00
