Obsidian Waiheke Island Montepulciano 2012

Montepulciano from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 28-Jul-2013
Very full, black-red colour with purple hues. The nose is firm and intense with bold aromas of dark berry and blackcurrant fruit, along with notes of plums, herbs and cedar nuances. Medium-full bodied, the fruit is tightly bound and showing good intensity and vibrancy. Black berries, blackcurrants and herbs form an iron core, with an underlying richness. The mouthfeel is youthfully firm from fine-grained tannin extraction and soft acidity. The palate has linearity and drive, carrying to a sustained finish showing lively currant and herb nuances. This is a tight and driven Montepulciano with fresh, dark berry fruit and curranty flavours, and a youthfully firm palate. Serve with roasted red meats and hard cheeses over the next 5-7 years. Fruit from the ‘Obsidian’ vineyard, destemmed and fermented to 14.2% alc., the wine aged 10 months in seasoned barriques, 40% 1 y.o.. 18.0+/20 Jul 2013 RRP $35.00
