Obsidian Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 24-Sep-2012
Chardonnay fruit from ‘Millar's Property' and the ‘Edbrooke' vineyard, WBP and barrel-fermented to 14.1% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 40% new French oak barriques with batonnage. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with some green hues, pale on edge. This has an elegantly full and deep nose with a complex amalgam of ripe citrus and yellow stonefruits interwoven with mealy, nutty notes. Medium-full bodied, firmly packed and concentrated, complex flavours of sweetly ripe citrus fruits, nutty oak and savoury, mealy elements are framed within a robust structure. There is a grainy, textual line along with fresh and crisp, enlivening acidity which carries the palate through to a very long, dry finish that blossoms with stonefruit and nutty flavours. This is a robust and complex, citrus-nutty flavoured Chardonnay that will match pork and veal over the next 4-5+ years. 18.0-/20 Sep 2012 RRP $38.00
