Obsidian Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 14-Sep-2011
Fruit from ‘Millar's' and ‘Edbrooke', hand-picked and WBP, with fermentation to 14.5% alc., and 10 months maturation in 25% new French oak barriques, with occasional lees stirring. Bright, even straw-yellow colour with some golden hues, this is tightly bound on the nose, with concentrated, ripe citrus and mealy fruit along with buttered toast and nutty oak aromas. Full-bodied and with real power and drive, this rich, but restrained citrus and nectarine fruit flavours showing. The mouthfeel has barrel-ferment creaminess, the roundness enhanced by moderate acidity. Attractive toasty, nutty oak nuances linger on the finish. This is a powerful solid wine, still tight, and will become richer over the next 3-5 years. Match with roasted pork. 157 dozen made. 17.5/20 Sep 2011 RRP $35.80
