Nockie’s Palette Waitaki Chardonnay 2021, North Otago

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 27-Feb-2023
Bright, even, pale straw yellow with some depth. The nose is elegantly full with focus, penetrating aromas of peach, citrus, oyster shells, spice and cream. Medium-full bodied, ripe citrus, peach and apricot aromas intertwined with hazelnut, spice and oyster shells. The wine is concentrated with great intensity, evolving on the palate with layers of flavour. Oyster shell and chalky minerals cling to the palate, supported by fine acidity and driving a long, elegant finish. This sleek Chardonnay has well-proportioned oak, adding complexity and adorning the minerals-driven and ripely fruited palate. Match with crayfish and roasted guinea fowl over the next 5-7 years. Fruit from Tatty Bogler and Carluke vineyards handpicked, whole bunch pressed, wild fermented in barrels to 14.42% alc, occasional lees stirred, aged in barrels for 8 months, 18% new oak. 19+/20 pts (96 pts) Feb 2023 RRP $65
