The tribute wine to Daniel and Adele Le Brun's daughter, Virginie. 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, fermented to 12.5% alc., with a dosage of 5.5 g/L rs, and aged 4 years on lees. Full straw-yellow colour, with depth, the bubbles very fine and with good persistence. The bouquet is full and quite tightly packed with ripe fruit characters and definite bready-yeasty aromatics, quite soft in expression. And likewise on palate, dry, with real richness and depth, but a wonderful harmony and interwoven componentry of solid Pinot Noir fruit structure and presence, with layers of autolysis flavours unfolding and filling the mouth. Texturally, this is sensationally smooth, with excellent, delicate mousse and underlying acidity keeping the palate lively. This is drinking beautifully now with great interest, and should continue to do so over the next 4+ years. 19.0/20 Jul 2011 RRP $57.50 Strong, deepish straw-yellow in colour, this has a fine and persistent bubble bead. The bouquet is one of serious sophistication, displaying tight and concentrated, savoury complex autolytic characters of yeast and baked bread, with dark fruit influence. The elegant proportion indicates much more interest is to unfold. Dry on palate, there is a crisp elegance, but a dense and concentrated, bold flavour of rich and fleshy Pinot Noir fruit, enlivened by citrusy notes. Yeast, brioche and savoury complexities make the spectrum of flavours stunning, but it is the superb acidity that provides cut, tension and raciness to make this wine outstanding. It carries a very long, dry and concentrated finish, and beautifully fine, creamy textured mousse.
