Ngatarawa ‘Proprietors Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-May-2016
Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is fine in presentation with aromas of ripe blackberried fruits along with some blue fruits, black pepper and Asian spice notes interwoven with rounded florals and black minerals providing lift and detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate features plush and juicy, mouthfilling flavours of vibrant and lively blackberry and blueberry fruit lifted by Asian spices. The mouthfeel has plenty of underlying acidity and vitality with floral detail adding to the lift and freshness. The fruit sweetness is enlivened by the brisk acidity and the wine follows a fine, textured line with refined tannin extraction carrying to a lively, brisk and zesty finish of black fruits. This is plush and juicy, black-fruited Syrah with spices notes, lively acidity and fine-grained extraction. Match with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 5-6 years. 80% MS and 20% Chave clone Syrah from estate vineyards in the Bridge Pa Triangle fermented with a small portion of Viognier to 14.0% alc., the wine spending 14 days on skins post ferment and aged 12 months in 40% new French oak barriques. 18.0+/20 May 2016 RRP $39.00
