Ngatarawa ‘Proprietors Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 13-May-2015
A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit 60% from the Bridge Pa Triangle and 40% from the Gravels, hand-picked and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 15 months in French oak barriques. Very full, deep, near impenetrable black-hued ruby-red colour. The nose is full and voluminous with aromas of ripe black plums, liquorice, iron-earth and cedary oak, unfolding nuances of blackcurrants, spices, game and pencil-shavings wood. Medium-full bodied, soft, rich and densely packed flavours of black plums, liquorice and spices are entwined with savoury iron-earth, and cedary oak. The fruit is plush and the mouthfeel rounded, the softness enhanced by modest acidity. The fruit extract builds and is supported by soft tannin grip and the structure carries the wine to a rich, solid, moderately long finish. This is a fulsome, solidly packed, but soft Merlot and Cabernet blend with black plum, and cedary flavours. Serve with slow-cooked game meat and casseroles over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5+/20 May 2015 RRP $39.00
