Ngatarawa ‘Proprietors Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-May-2016
Bright, even, light yellow colour with pale lemon-green hues, paler on the rim. The nose is elegant with clean, clear, fresh and pure aromas of ripe citrus fruits with layers of white and yellow stonefruits along with elegantly expressed, but intense spicy, nutty oak and delicate creamy barrel-ferment and MLF interest. Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich citrus and ripe yellow stonefruit layers forming a soft, rounded and weighty heart with a degree of unctuousness. The fruit grows in richness to fill the mouth, with underlying freshness and subtle textural cut providing drive and line. Layers of creamy barrel-ferment and MLF notes emerge and carry to a fine, concentrated, lingering finish with good drive and alcohol power. This is a rich, weighty, citrussy Chardonnay with roundness, fine line and drive and subtle freshness and oak. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4-5 years. Clone 15 Chardonnay from two sites in the Bridge Pa Triangle, from 15-20 y.o. vines, fully barrel-fermented, 18% by indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in one-third new French oak barriques, undergoing batonnage and full MLF. 18.5/20 May 2016 RRP $35.00
