Ngatarawa ‘Life Times’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 14-Feb-2017
Full, even dark garnet-red colour with a little bricking on the edge. The bouquet is gently full and harmoniously melded with a core of ripe, dark-red plum fruit with a layering of savoury red berries complexed by secondary dried herbs, liquorice and cedary aromas, with fine, integrated oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate has mouthfilling flavours of dark plums interwoven with savoury red berry fruits, liquorice, dried herbs, earth and cedar. The fruit has richness and sweetness, balanced by considerable fine-grained, flowery tannin structure. Soft, integrated acidity lends roundness to the mouthfeel. This has density, weight and presence, and the wine carries to a full, well-packed, lingering finish of plums. Liquorice, earth and cedar. This is a fulsome, complex layered Merlot blend with savoury plum, herb, earth and cedary secondary development flavours on a fine-grained palate with plenty of structure and presence. Match with slow-cooled game meat dishes over the next 7-9+ years. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon predominantly from four of the company’s Bridge Pa vineyards, from vines 20+ y.o., hand-picked and fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine spending 2-3 weeks on skins post ferment, and aged 15 months in 40% new French oak barriques. 18.5+/20 Feb 2017 RRP $85.00
