Ngatarawa ‘Alwyn’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Jun-2011
A blend of 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, the frit from 60% Bridge Pa Triangle and 40% Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 37% new French oak barriques. Very dark, deep ruby-red with some purple hues to the colour, this is soft and full on the nose, showing ripe plum, liquorice and savoury earth and tobacco aromas and harmonious, cedary oak. Medium full-bodied and softly textured on palate, ripe flavours of damson plums, liquorice, earth, fruit-cake, chocolate and oak spice flow. The wine shows good integration and balance and is quite approachable now. A gentle, layered wine that will drink well with most red meat dishes and hard cheeses over the next 5-7+ years. 17.5+/20 Jun 2011 RRP $80.00
