Nga Waka ‘Lease Block’ Martinborough Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 31-Oct-2014
Moderately dark, even, ruby-red colour with slight purple hues, lighter on rim. The nose is elegantly concentrated with deep aromas of ripe dark red and black berry fruit aromas with nuances of black cherries, plums and complexing savoury herb detail that build in intensity with aeration. Medium-full bodied and elegantly proportioned, concentrated flavours of sweetly ripe black and dark red berry fruits are integrated with layers of savoury dark herb, and whole bunch complexities. The fruit is melded with very fine-grained, supple tannins, and integrated acidity, the palate flowing without effort. This has a deep, sweetly rich core that grows in texture and extract, carrying through to a very long and sustained finish with ripe plum, herb and liquorice notes. This is an elegant, fine-textured and concentrated Pinot Noir with structure, sweet rich fruit and complex savoury layers. Match with wild duck, pork and hare over the next 7-9 years. 70% clone 5 and 15% each 10/5 and 115 from vines planted in 1999, fermented with 20% whole clusters to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 3 weeks on skins and aged 12 months in approx. 25% new French oak. 19.0/20 Oct 2014 RRP $50.00
