Newton Forrest ‘Cornerstone’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot/Malbec 2013

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Oct-2015
Very dark black-red colour with purple hues. This is elegantly concentrated with intense, purely expressed aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberries and black plums, gently revealing exotic herbal, earth and nutty oak notes and nuances of graphite. This is densely packed and tightly bound at the heart. Medium-full bodied, the palate is firmly concentrated with a rich core of ripe blackcurrant fruit. Layers of interest unfold, showing blackberries, spices, oak and lead pencil notes. The oaking is sensitive and subtle. The sweet fruit is supported by very fine-grained, flowery tannins lending a refined structure and linear mouthfeel, leading to a long, lingering finish. This is a beautifully elegant, firmly concentrated, sweet, black-fruited Bordeaux-varietal blend with refined extraction and line. Serve with roast beef or lamb and with hard cheeses over the next 10-15 years. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 15% Malbec from the ‘Cornerstone’ vineyard, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 20 months in 30% new French oak. 19.0+/20 Oct 2015 RRP $60.00
