Newman’s Own ‘Common Good’ California Chardonnay 2016

Chardonnay from USA
Review Date : 16-Oct-2018
Bright, golden-yellow colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is soft anf gently full with moderate depth of ripe tropical fruit and citrus fruit with pineapple notes, along with sweet nutty oak, unfolding some buttery MLF with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate has ripe and sweetly rich flavours of tropical fruit and citrus fruit with pineapple and buttery notes. The fruit forms a firm hearted core with a vigorous line showing some heat and phenolics. The wine has a restrained, steely edge and carries with some underlying alcohol drive to a rich, tropical fruited and buttery finish. This is a sweetly rich Chardonnay with ripe tropical and citrus fruit flavours with pineapple and butter on a slightly hot palate with some phenolics. Match with roast pork over the next 2+ years. California fruit, 75% Coastal and 25% Delta regions in origin, predominantly fermented in stainless-steel to 13.4% alc., the wine given oak contact, undergoing partial MLF. 16.5+/20 Oct 2018 RRP $29.90
