Nevis Bluff Central Otago Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 04-Aug-2016
Light garnet-red colour with some depth, paler on the rim with some bricking. The nose is firm and intense with deep and well-packed aromas of savoury red berry fruits entwined with dried thyme herbs, some undergrowth complexity, suggestions of whole bunch stalk, and some secondary cedary and slightly resinous oak. Medium-bodied and elegantly presented, the palate possesses a core of secondary savoury red berry fruits and red florals alongside restrained dried herb and undergrowth notes, and lifted, sweet, cedary oak. The fruit is underlined by modest extraction lending a supple, fine-textured line. The mouthfeel is fresh and lively with good acid energy and flow, carrying to an elegantly concentrated finish with savoury red fruit and cedary elements. This is an elegantly presented Pinot Noir with savoury secondary flavours of red fruits, dried herbs and undergrowth, along with a light structure. Match with antipasto and Mediterranean fare over the next 3+ years. Clones 5, 6, 115, 10/5, 667, 777 and Abel, hand-picked, the fruit fermented with 30% whole bunches to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 25% new French oak barrels. 17.5-/20 Aug 2016 RRP $38.00
