Full, even straw-yellow colour with green-gold hues, lighter on edge. The nose is full, deep and rich with complex aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits melded with mealy elements, oxidative, nutty and toasty oak notes, and flinty, minerally reductive detail. This has layers of interest that build in density and volume. The bouquet is quite complete. Fullish bodied, rich and densely packed flavours of ripe yellow stonefruits, nuts, mealy and biscuit detail open out to reveal oxidative and flinty lees complexities along with lemon-curd MLF and toasty oak. The flavours fill the palate with excellent breadth, but the wine retains concentration and line, the wine possessing fresh acid poise and drive. The wine leads to a fresh, subtly luscious, well-concentrated and lingering finish. This is a full and complex flavoured, concentrated Chardonnay with layers of nutty and flinty notes. Match with roasted poultry and pork dishes over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit, Mendoza, clone 15, 95, 8021 and 548, 86% from Moutere clay gravels and 14% from Waimea alluvial gravels, 100% WBP and fully barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts with high solids to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 16% new French oak, the wine undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. 2,886 cases made. 19.0-/20 Nov 2014 RRP $33.00
