Neudorf Nelson Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 16-Nov-2013
Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is softly rich with deeply packed aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits, forming a complex amalgam, unfolding layers of nutty, creamy barrel-ferment notes with oak toast, gunflint and buttery MLF elements. Medium-full bodied, rich and tightly concentrated flavours of ripe citrus and peach are at the heart of the palate. The mouthfeel is rich and creamy with excellent presence, the sweetness moderated and balanced by a fine, texturally, structured, dry line and fresh acidity. Complex nuances of barrel-ferment cream, nuts and toasty oak intermingle with the fruit and carry through to a lacy, slippery finish of real length. This is a complex Chardonnay with layers of rich flavours and balancing grip and freshness. Match with roasted poultry and pork over the next 4-5+ years. Mendoza 15, 95 and 8021 clones, 89% from Moutere clay sites and 11% from Waimea gravels, hand-picked, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented with high solids to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 14% new French oak with batonnage and 100% MLF. 2,650 cases made. 19.0/20 Nov 2013 RRP $33.00
