Neudorf Moutere Nelson Riesling 2011

Riesling from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 09-Feb-2013
Fruit from the ‘Rosedale Road' vineyard, WBP and stainless-steel fermented with 10% in old oak by indigenous yeasts to 9.0% alc. and 48.2 g/L rs, the wine aged on lees. Very pale straw colour with slight green hues, this has a very funky, packed nose with considerable flinty, minerally reduction, somewhat masking the fruit initially. With air, delicate citrus fruit and white florals emerge. Medium-dry to medium in taste, the palate is taut, but concentrated with intensity and real linear drive. Beautifully lush and poised flavours of limes, florals, minerals and flint dance across the palate, with detail and tension provided by fine, lacy and near zesty acidity. The finish is very long. This will develop greater richness and intensity over the next 5-6 years. 18.5+/20 Feb 2013 Brilliant colour, very pale straw-yellow with some green hues, near colourless on edge. The nose is full, voluminous and broadly expressed with aromas of flint-like lees and reduction, smoky wild yeast elements, unfolding layers of citrus fruits, an array of floral perfumes and slate. Medium-sweet to taste, this has beautiful waves of flavour, with white florals, limes and minerals along with flint and smoke, forming a complex, interwoven palate. The balance is exquisite with very fine, soft textures allied to fine acid drive which leads to a very long and subtly luscious finish with nuances of honey. This is an intricate and detailed Riesling in the classical Rheingau style of Germany. Serve as an aperitif or serve with fine Asian fare over the next 4-6 years. Fruit from the ‘Rosedale Road' vineyard, hand-picked, undergoing extensive sorting and selection, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented, 10% in a seasoned barrel, to 9.0% alc. and 48.2 g/L rs, a TA of 8.4 g/L and a pH of 2.65. 240 cases made. 19.0+/20 Aug 2012 RRP $29.90
