Neudorf Moutere Nelson Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 08-Mar-2013
Bright, very pale straw colour with lemon-green hues, pale on rim. The nose is beautifully refined and aromatic showing ripe white stonefruits, pears, honeysuckle and complexing nuances of nuts and flint. Dryish to taste and with good weight and depth, gentle layers of spiced pears and stonefruits are entwined with honeysuckle. The flavours have a restrained richness and succulence and provide a plush texture and mouthfeel. There is an underlying cut, power and drive from the acidity and alcohol, but the balance and harmony of the palate is a feature. The flavours are carried to a very long, lingering finish with flavours of pears and flinty minerals. This is a beautifully refined and aromatic, dry Pinot Gris with harmony and drive. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern influenced cuisine over the next 4-5 years. Clones 2/15 and Mission from the ‘Home’ vineyard hand-picked and WBP, indigenous yeast fermented with 40% in 500 L puncheons to 13.5% alc. and 7 g/L rs, the wine aged on gross lees. 216 cases made. 19.0-/20 Mar 2013 RRP $29.90
