Neudorf Moutere Nelson Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 20-Dec-2013
Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour with some depth, lighter on edge. The bouquet is full, but elegantly presented with refined, ripe yellow stonefruit and citrus fruit aromas. Beautifully intricate, detailed and interwoven nuances of nuts, flint, minerals and integrated oak show with delicacy. Medium-full bodied, the palate is tight, rich and intense, with a refined expression. Bright yellow stonefruits and nutty, mealy, flinty flavours form a tight and concentrated core. The fruit has a subtle richness and near-succulent sweetness, which is checked by fine acid cut and underlying alcohol drive. The mouthfeel is one of vitality allied to fine textures, and features delicate nuances that unfold and carry through to a very long, sustained, nutty, finish. This is a refined but powerful Chardonnay with sweet citrus and nutty flavours in the classical white burgundy style. Serve with roasted seafood and white meat dishes over the next 5-6+ years. Mendoza clone fruit from vines planted in 1998 in the ‘Home Block’, hand-picked and WBP, fully barrel-fermented with high solids by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 12% French oak, undergoing 100% MLF and batonnage. 396 cases made. 19.5-/20 Dec 2013 RRP $64.00 Bright, full, straw-yellow colour with some light golden hues, pale on rim. The bouquet grows subtly in volume with rich and ripe yellow stonefruit aromas interwoven with hints of tropical fruits, nuts, toasty oak with layers of butter and flintiness all in a complex amalgam of detail. Medium-full bodied, ripe yellow stonefruits form a weighty core with palate presence. Gentle layers of flavour unfold, revealing tropical fruits, nutty oak and flinty complexities. A very fine textural line guides the flavours with underlying power, and good acid liveliness provides energy. The mouthfeel is harmonious and well-integrated in its concentration, smooth-flowing and quite restrained in its expression of richness. The flavours carry through to a very long subtly sweet, nutty finish. This is a rich and layered, complex Chardonnay with weight, concentration and restraint.
