Neck Of The Woods Chardonnay 2019, Central Otago

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 17-Feb-2021
Bright, pale yellow with some depth and a gold hue, faintly lighter on the rim. The nose is soft and elegant, penetrating aromas of hazelnut, lemon sherbet, mineral and spice mix. Medium-bodied, Meyer lemon, lemon peel, lemon sherbet with a hint of peach at the core, melded with subtle and elegant hazelnut and spice nuances along with a little cream fraiche. The mouthfeel comprises a fine-textured phenolic, integrated acidity tension and minerals; subtle nutty element lends a refined finish. This is an elegant Chardonnay with well-proportioned fruit, nutty component and fine acidity on a refined palate. Match with chawanmushi and white fish over the next 3-4 years. Clones B95 & 548 from a one-hectare vineyard at Cairnmuir side of Bannockburn, whole bunch pressed, with light solids, 100% barrel-fermented to 13% alc, aged in French oak barriques for 9 months, 20% new oak. 2,596 bottles produced. 18+/20 pts (91 pts) Feb 2021 RRP
