Fruit from the ‘Opawa’ and ‘Kaituna’ vineyards with contract fruit, cool-fermented in stainless-steel, 30% initiated by indigenous yeasts and 2% barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc. and 2.0 g/L RS., the wine aged 4 months on lees. Bright, very pale straw with slight green hues, near colourless on the rim. This has a very fresh, bright and finely presented nose with aromas of white stonefruits and florals, subtle green stonefruit notes, gooseberries and a little passionfruit detail. The fruit is tightly bound and shows a steely, minerally, thirst-quenching freshness. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is one of finesse with a well-proportioned core of gooseberries, passionfruit, tropical fruits, herbs and minerals. The fruit has sweetness and richness, which is balanced by excellent, lacy acidity. The wine follows a fine-featured line with fresh energy and beautiful poise, and the softly concentrated core leads to a sustained, dry finish with passionfruit, gooseberry and mineral detail. This is an elegant and refined, subtly detailed Sauvignon Blanc with richness, fine textures and poise. Serve as an aperitif and with seafood over the next 2+ years. 18.0+/20 Dec 2015 RRP $25.00
