Music Bay Hawke’s Bay ‘Winter’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet/Malbec 2016

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-May-2017
Dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is fresh and elegantly proportioned with good depth of blackberry and redcurrant fruit with notes of dark plums. This is fine in presentation, unfolding notes of fresh herbs and a little earthiness with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate has fresh and juicy, uncomplicated flavours of blackberries and redcurrants, with plum and herb elements. The palate is bright and lively, with moderate succulence, and balancing soft, supple tannin structure, and fresh lacy acidity. The wine flows with good vitality and energy to a light, gently sustained finish od redcurrants and plums. This is a fresh and lively, moderately sweet-fruited Merlot-based wine with uncomplicated redcurrant and dark plum flavours on a supple palate. Match with antipasto, pasta and barbecued fare over the next 2-3 years. 97% Merlot with the remainder Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine bottled without oak contact. 16.5+/20 May 2017 RRP $19.99
