Dark ruby-red colour with depth. Cool sappy aromas of crushed blackcurrant leaves, fresh herbs and earthy vegetables mark the bouquet. Medium-full bodied, the cool-spectrum flavours of blackcurrants, stalk and stems are restrained in expression. The palate is surprisingly soft-textured with supple tannins and the acidity very discreet. The distinctive flavours are carried smoothly to a sustained, dry finish with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Though distinctly stalky and the fruit in the cool spectrum, the palate is smooth and without any textural harshness. Match with herb-encrusted roast lamb over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the lime-rich ‘Nelson' block from 25 y.o. vines, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in seasoned French oak. 15.5+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $25.00
