Muddy Water Waipara Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 02-Jun-2016
Ruby-red colour with some depth, lighter on the edge with purple hues. The nose is softly expressed with even, ethereal aromas of savoury dark-red berry fruits entwined with subtle notes of dark herbs and earth. The aromatics build in intensity, unveiling game, nutty and cinnamon spice elements and violet florals. Medium-full bodied, the flavours of savoury dark-red berry fruits are harmoniously layered with dark and dried herbs and earthy nuance, and gently fill the mouth. The fruit is underlined by supple, fine-grained tannins and light, lacy acidity, providing an elegant structure and core. The fruit sweetness prevails and carries to a rich, openly accessible finish with lingering savoury red fruit and earthy nuances. This is a softly mouthfilling, savoury, red-fruited Pinot Noir with herbal and earthy detail, and a supple, accessible palate. Match with mushroom dishes, pasta and risotto over the next 4+ years. A mix of 8 clones, 10/5, 113, 114, 115, 5, Abel, 667 and 777, vines between 14-25 y.o., hand-picked and indigenous yeast fermented with 10% whole clusters to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 5 weeks on skins and aged 11 months in 35% new oak barrels. Certified Asurequality organic. 17.5+/20 Jun 2016 RRP $40.00
