Very deep, dark, near saturated black-red colour with youthful purple hues on rim. The nose is elegant and refined in concentration with ripe blackcurrant, redcurrant and dark plum aromas, entwined with nuances of dark herbs and black ink. The aromatics build in intensity, revealing subtle spicy oak and savoury olive detail. Fullish bodied, tight and restrained fruit flavours of black berries and currants, with plummy nuances are the feature. The elegance of structure and mouthfeel is classical, with the sweet fruit balanced by refined powdery tannin extraction and excellent acidity. Oaking is harmonious and the palate has linearity, energy and poise, carrying to a very long and sustained finish with blackcurrant and plum elements. This is a classical Bordeaux-styled Merlot/Cabernet blend with refined fruit, structure and balance. Serve with roasted lamb, beef, venison and hard cheeses over the next 8-10+ years. 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec from ‘Shepherds Point’ and ‘Mudbrick’ vineyards, indigenous yeast fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 30% new oak. 75 cases made. 18.5+/20 Aug 2014 RRP $55.00
