Mudbrick ‘Reserve’ Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2017

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 04-Jul-2018
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues. The nose is elegant in proportion with intense and finely concentrated aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits with citrus fruit and tropical fruit elements, entwined with creamy barrel-ferment, and nutty, toasty oak, unveiling suggestions of flint and butter. Medium-bodied, the palate is well-concentrated with bright and vibrant flavours of citrus fruits, yellow stonefruits and tropical fruits complexed by creamy barrel-ferment, and nutty, toasty oak. The fruit has vitality and is enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity. The wine carries along a fine, positive line unfolding hints of flint, toast and butter as it leads to a long, sustained finish. This is a well-concentrated, vibrant Chardonnay with citrus and stonefruit flavours along with complex barrel-ferment and nutty, toasty oak, on a bright, energetic palate with excellent length. Match with roasted pork over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from the ‘Shepherds Point, ‘Hawkes Crest’ and ‘Mudbrick’ vineyards, WBP direct to barrel and fully indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 30% new French oak with batonnage and 100% MLF. 459 cases made. 19.0-/20 Jul 2018 RRP $59.00
