Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Shepherds Point’, ‘Hawkes Crest’ and ‘Mudbrick’ vineyards, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 40% new French oak barriques with 100% MLF. Full, even, light straw-yellow colour with slight lemon-green hues, pale on edge. The nose is refreshing and elegantly presented with aromatic white and yellow stonefruits, white florals and citrus fruits entwined with fragrant, spicy, nutty and creamy barrel-ferment elements. With aeration, suggestions of flint and minerals emerge. Medium-full bodied, this has a soft and deep core of rich and luscious citrus and yellow stonefruits with creamy, buttery barrel-ferment textures. Nutty and toasty oak flavours unfold adding complexing detail. The mouthfeel is balanced by lively, lacy acidity lending freshness and cut, and the wine follows a very fine-textured thread and line, carrying to a long, elegant finish of citrus fruits, nuts and cream. This is an elegantly concentrated, succulent, citrus-fruited Chardonnay with barrel-ferment richness and fresh acidity.
